So, I was lying on my back attempting to have an OBE. After some time, my hands go numb. Is this the beginning of SP?

Sounds more like low blood flow. Were your hands behind your head?

No. I think It may just be that, when I don't focus on them, they feel numb and as if they don't exist.

yes , it is beginning of SP. it happens to me a lot, first the fingers and then entire hand, then legs etc etc.... but make sure u r not stressing out the joints, if it is adjust ur sleeping position. we dont want to block out blood flow. relax...

It might be the beginning of sleep paralysis, but on other hand it might also due to your blood preassure flow or some thing like that. So, it's better to take some suggestions from specialist.

Our heart slows and our BP falls when we relax so things like numbness in hands become more common esp if one doesn't have very good circulation.

I'd say no it isn't necessarily the start of SP, all it shows is that you are probably more relaxed. (I suggest if you are trying to LD aim for that and not SP). Sensations in the body doesn't necessarily mean that one is going to get SP, not all get SP before LD.
