Damn way too hard to pick a favorite movie, it usually changes as I grow older. The Matrix usually comes to mind, loved the first one so much.

I watch a lot of movies, and I like a lot of them equally. My list of favorite movies would be very long and anyways I have not got it ready.

Maybe someday, in my LD, I will ask for this list and maybe my subconscious has it ready.

I have too many favourite movies to list (Im a real movie fan).

District 9 was good as it was sooo different. It made me cry  They did such a great job at making you feel sorry for those very ugly aliens. I liked The Butterfly Effect and Pulp Fiction.

Rabbit Proof Fence is very good and I recommend it to everyone (another movie which made me cry, its a true story). Its my favourite Aussie move.

My favourite aussie movie as a child 25-30 years ago was Storm Boy..that was so so long ago. As a child my favourite movies were The Neverending Story and ET haha when it first came out (that one made me cry)... movies back then werent like they are today..so many special effects in the movies now. I also liked Toy Story and was a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. As a child Jaws, Children of the Corn, Nightmare on Elm Street scared the crap out of me. (I'd hide behind my parents lounge and watch the series Prisoner with tv turned down low haha).

I watched the first season of the series Breaking Bad not long ago and found that soo funny.

Some great movies which I say are must see movies if you havent done so are

  • Schindler's List (another which will make you cry)
  • The Shawshank Redemption
  • The Godfather
  • The Matrix

Other movies I really liked are The Twilight movies, Underworld and Blade (movies for vampire movie lovers), City of Angels, X-Men movies, Avatar, Cast Away, The Boy in the Stripped Pajamas, Harry Potter, Night at the Museum (Im such a kid at times)

District 9 is alright. And like many other people, how can I say I have a favorite movie? That would mean only watching that one movie over and over and no others. Each one is different, but the best ones have a combination of great characters, actors, music, setting and plot that just seem to work so well. But sometimes I love movies that are so cheesy they have non of that!

Here's my two favorite, best, worst, cheesy movies:

Gymkata. A must see for cheesy, B-movie buffs! SnakeEater, starring Lorenzo Lamas. Or some pronounce it, Lame-Ass....

If you have any sarcastic sense of humor you will die laughing at those!

But my favorite is not a movie at all per-say, but a Japanese Anime: **Neon Genesis Evangelion! **

But good movies that aren't mentioned. I love those animes.....

AKIRA <-- oldie but still a goodie Princess Monanokie <--- how can you hate this?

Just because it is animated doesn't mean it is a 'cartoon'. They are deep and intellectual.

That doesn't mean the other suggestions are bad; I just want to acknowledge the lesser known ones that are still very mainstream.

I'll end this by saying Bladerunner is an excellent movie, but everybody knew that already.

How is that Princess mononoke movie?

Most would say it is Miyazaki's best film. He's the same mastermind behind 'Spirited Away' and 'Valley of the Wind'. He keeps using a 'mankind's progress vs. nature' kind of a theme in many of his movies and Princess Mononoke did it beautifully.

As well as Identifying kids to be more mature than adults, since the Titular Princess (Who's name isn't Mononoke) is a child, Chihiro/Sen is a Child, Sosuke and Ponyo are children yet they overcome most problems an adult has to face, war, working, dealing with natural disasters. You name it.

I thought Spirited Away and Valley of The Wind were very well made, but I didn't like them simply because of their story lines. I will give PM a shot though. Thanks for the input.

WorldEnterer is right. He does those kind of movies too. But to AceofSpades, Princess Mononoke is more 'adult' with some violent scenes and a story that is a little bleak and not so 'happy go lucky'. So the plot is much better and more thought-provoking. And I love how the antagonist of the story isn't an oversimplified villain who does evil acts for the heck of it the way most children's cartoons portray them. She is merely a human with a difference of opinion. (And that doesn't give anything away.)

I watched the first half of it online yesterday just to make sure I remembered it correctly and had the right to recommend it. I reminded myself that, yes I do! It was low-def, though and didn't stream well. It's hard to find a good quality version for free. It's one of those movies you need a big screen TV with surround sound home theater to do it justice.

I like animations, (which most disregard as childish), but like Princess Monoke, they can be more 'adult', with deeper issues.

The other day I saw, The Iron Giant. Good movie. It seems childish, but it's actually very poignant with philosophical themes of self identity. And, again, the bad guys are always the ones in 'power'.

And as for Snaggle's contribution. I should watch V For Vendetta again. It's on my list of movies to watch again! :D

Hagart everyone who likes art and also even draws likes anime and cartoons - I don't think there's anything rare in that. Horror and Scifi fans, also, are almost all anime fans.

As for those in power being always bad guys, we live in essentially all evil world, were almost everyone is tainted with some form of evil. Politicians and those running them behind the scenes are always evil, the only question is how many forms of evil do they combine and what other viscous qualities do they combine with their evil.

Even for ordinary people it's hard to become good and to remain uncorrupted by evil, as we are living in "an assylum for the criminally insane". The majority lack both the intelligence and rationality to discover what good and evil are. They remain determined by their personalities, by the morality (the values of the culture they were raised in), by the new "Politically Correct" morality that the government and those behind it are pushing as morality for the moment; religious morals, which like the Politically Correct kind are pseudo moralities just trying to become the new replacement morality. None of these moralities are of any value in finding good and evil - dung contains little gold, at best they provide seductive tests to build character through.
